16sai dakeredo, ryoushin kara dokuritsu shiteimasu.]
Though only 16, he is independent of his parents.  

彼はあまり勉強しないけれども、成績がいい
Although he doesn't study hard, he gets good marks

Used to join two sentences.
けれども (most formal) →けれど→けど (least formal)
けど used in speech, not when writing.
Using けれども etc to start a sentence is frowned upon.  But, like
using 'but' to start a sentence in English, is sometimes done anyway.

Verb, i-adjective or the copula should be before けれども.

e.g. 彼は１６歳だけれど、両親から独立しています。

In polite/formal use 
sentence-A [-masu] けれども sentence-B [-masu] can be used, but 
sentence-A  けれど(も) sentence-B [-masu]

I would say 'お引き受けしたいのですが・・・。'

I would like to express my displeasure in seeing wa/ha o/wo in Romaji.  We
are all supposed to know what they mean, so why write them as they don't
sound?  Why write 'ha' when we all know it really sounds like 'wa?' Why
write 'wo' when we know it really sounds like 'o'?  Why don't you write it
like it sounds?  (contributor: feralkat)

feralkat, it makes more sense to use the hiragana key strokes for these
characters. even if its in romanji. if you write wa and o in your letter to
a japanese person it would look very gaijin poi. so despite your
displeasure, its the correct way to do it. (contributor: tigert)

Very nice examples, but けど not used in writing? It depends on the
